I’m So Excited…So Why Am I Not Making Money Yet!

Being excited about a new business is great…but it is a good idea to wait
till after you get a hold of your emotions, before you sign on the dotted
line.

Just because you are excited, DOES NOT mean you will find others that
will feel the same way.

The fact that most home businesses cost very little to start, many do get
started, and they never tell another soul…they become under cover agents!

If you do not share what you have, you will be a customer only…if you are OK
with that, then keep your hat and sunglasses on.

This is why it is VERY important that you LOVE the product or service you are
providing.

Here are a few questions you should ask yourself before committing to a business,
or making the decision to continue on with your present business.

1. Am I OK with the possibility of making no money in my business?

2. Do I REALLY love the product or service?

3. Would I use the product or service without a comp plan attached to it?

4. Am I willing to talk to others about the product or service?

5. Am I willing to invest my precious time and money?

6. Am I willing to block out the people that want to steal my dream?

7. Am I willing to stretch and grow into a leader?

You are the only one who can answer these questions.

The thought of being your own boss is nice, but really, many are not willing to
commit and do what is needed to succeed.

Too often money is lost and not made….so do yourself a favor, and really think
before you act.

After you do your soul searching, and have decided to get into business, or to
finally get your business going, take full responsibility for your actions and
business.

Do not leave your success to anyone else.

Be responsible for who you are, where you are going, what you will receive, and
who you will lead!

To Your Success,

Alice McCarthy

  1. I have to tell you Alice, the title of your post made me smile because it brought back so many memories of my decade in direct sales. I can’t count the number of times I sat across from someone so enthusiastic they were bouncing off the walls about their new business. Unfortunately, few of those people bothered to attend meetings or follow through on such mundane things as training, and most quit within the first 3 months. As you’ve illustrated in your article, enthusiasm is great, but persistence and well thought out, consistent action are the keys to success.

  2. Hi Alice,
Great to bump into you after so long…..
These are great questions to ask yourself before committing to a business. Also, it is so important to not give in to your emotions, like you say. Give it some time, google and search the business out and look for guidance to confirm your decision. Interestingly, I still use some products that I love and that work from past companies, but I don’t want to be in business with them. Funny, I am more willing to talk to others about my product if making money isn’t a factor. I’ve learned so much over the past few years about what I am comfortable with and what I want to do.
There is so much more to making a business work than being excited about it and I am sure you know that. But that is another whole subject!
    Nice to see you!

    1. Hello Lynn,

Nice to see you lady…It is very important for us to search our hearts and
know exactly what we are willing and not willing to do.

If we do this before getting into business, we have a better chance of finding
success with the right company and team.

  3. Hello Alice
Stunningly good advice “Do not leave your success to anyone else.” it is the best quote I have read this week to be honest. Those who do try to leave their success in someone else’s hands will be the same ones who try to leave blame with others too in my experience it’s never them 🙂

    1. Working for yourself is not easy…anyone can do it, but most never will.

Oh yes, the blame game…it is never their fault.

  4. We are in charge of ourselves, nothing more and nothing less. This is a great article Alice. Sometimes, when we start our businesses we do hide them for fear of someone finding out about it and “?”.

So they find out about it? What could that possibly matter, especially if it is exactly what they have been looking for their entire lives and now you are the example they have been waiting to see.

Let’s get ourselves going toward our success. It is a whole lot easier for fortune to smile at us, if our faces are upturned toward the warmth of the success sun, rather than turned down staring at our feet. 🙂

    1. Hello Michael,

True we are all in control of only what we do…we never have control
over others and what they do.

We have the control over sharing our product or service or hiding it
from others…this is where much thought needs to be done before becoming
a business owner….a happy customer is COOL too!

  5. Great questions Alice that each one of us needs to ask him or herself before starting a business.
Another one I often ask myself is: Would I be the client of myself?

I also remember when describing my ideal client how close she is to who I am and I think that is also the key to our success, who better than ourselves understand our ideal client?
