Honesty Without Being Brutal

Day 17 ~ The Tactless Tongue

Being bluntly honest can get you in trouble.

Being honest is the best policy, but you have
to do it with style.

The truth can be very painful to hear.

When dealing with someones feelings, it is a skill
that can be developed to deal with  difficult
situations.

You would think that telling the truth should
be a simple thing to do.

There are different styles of communication, anywhere from
very harsh, to way too easy.

The very harsh person causes pain, and the very easy person gets
taken advantage of.

Have you ever told someone a blunt truth just to hurt them?

Be very careful with words that you speak while you are
angry, disappointed, or in retaliation.

Just because something is true, doesn’t mean it should
roll from your tongue.

If you must speak a truth…say it with tactfulness.

Being tactful doesn’t come easy to most, it is something that
takes practice!

Do you speak without thinking about the outcome?

Have you hurt someone with the truth?

Did you need to speak that truth, or was it meant to
do harm?

Think before you speak…see the words and the impact they
will have in your mind, before you spit them out!

Today’s Affirmation:

My words will come from the heart with love.

How painful are honest words! But what do your arguments prove?
Job 6:25 (NIV)
